Photo Mode Collection: Terrifying Infected

To close out our 10th anniversary Photo Mode series and celebrate The Last of Us Day, we felt it was only fitting for our final Photo Mode challenge to focus on the Infected to coincide with the day in the world of The Last of Us that the cordyceps virus reached a critical mass. Over the last decade, we’ve heard from so many fans about what makes The Last of Us special, and the Infected are always a memorable part of the conversation. An incredible amount of work across the teams here at Naughty Dog has gone into making the Infected consistently feel tense, challenging, and deeply rooted in the world of The Last of Us; if you’re interested to learn more, you can check out our deep dive into The Last of Us’ Clickers. As such, we wanted to see what you could do with a challenge that meant getting up close and personal with the very foes you find so terrifying.

In our previous Photo Mode challenges, we saw quintessential TLOU moments represented in our 10th anniversary kickoff challenge, tons of lush, beautiful landscapes in our challenge highlighting the breathtaking environments of The Last of Us, and solemn character portraits in our challenge celebrating the unforgettable characters of The Last of Us. This time, your submissions were packed with exciting action. It was a thrill to see all of your photos, and below are 15 images that blew us away with their beautiful use of color, perspective, and motion. Check them out!

You represented the full catalogue of Infected so well in your submissions, with everything from Runners to the Rat King making appearances. From an epic decapitation, to a melancholic Shambler, to an... unexpectedly sassy Clicker, the breadth of what you captured was a delightful surprise. We can tell many of you risked some close encounters to get some of these shots, and your bravery and resolve paid off, resulting in some truly spectacular photos.

We hope you enjoyed participating or following along with our 10th anniversary Photo Mode challenges the last few months. We want to share a heartfelt thank you to the fans for your support over the last decade, and for spending TLOU Day with us. It’s an honor to see your love for The Last of Us still burning brightly ten years later, and it’s been so much fun celebrating the franchise with you all.
